About the Andrews Research and Education Foundation

The Andrews Research and Education Foundation (AREF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients with musculoskeletal disorders through world-renowned research, education and charitable care programs. named after world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James R. Andrews, AREF was established in 2001 as the educational arm of the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

AREFufffds mission is two-fold: 1) to support leading edge research that will advance the science and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders, and 2) to provide patient education programs that improve quality of life.

Since its inception, AREF has awarded over $9 million in grants to fund cutting-edge research projects at institutions across the country. Additionally, AREF has provided free or low-cost educational seminars on topics such as arthritis, sports injury prevention, womenufffds health issues related to aging athletes and more. These seminars have helped thousands of patients better understand their condition and learn how to manage their symptoms.
